As an editor, regardless of the genre of a given project, I am invested in connecting – both intellectually and emotionally – with all the footage at my disposal. This approach, coupled with a flexible attitude to experimentation, is what I use to navigate the non-linear experience of cutting, stitching, and weaving together a coherent and compelling story.
What excites me about editing is that it's open and unpredictable. At the beginning of each new project, the final outcome is always unknown. I choose to immerse myself fully in the metaphoric journey I embark on for each project I get involved in. As insular and highly focused as the editing process needs to be, the form of a project emerges through ongoing collaborative conversation and (re-)viewing footage. I value this close work with directors and others in making each project the best it can possibly be.
My passion for my craft hasn’t changed over the past 18 years, nor through the thousands of hours, I’ve committed to the discipline of editing. I am again and again inspired by the ways in which editing challenges me from project to project. These challenges, unique to each new project, are something that gives me great energy. I have worked across a broad range of genres and themes. These range from feature films to artist’s films, documentary and wildlife. I also constantly look, both critically and for inspiration, at the work of my colleagues, locally and internationally, driven by a strong desire to keep refining my craft.

Judges remarks “Charming, moving, heart warming - What’s not to like? The judges were completely invested in the fate of baby elephant Khanyisa: Would she survive? Would she be accepted into the herd? This powerful emotional hold was achieved through the edit by the sustained diary style, the graceful editing of the observational scenes; and the excellent crafting of the structure - which created a strong story narrative to keep the stakes high and the viewer guessing at every twist and turn of fate.”
